Being a teenager was difficult before the pandemic hit. Now, social isolation and drastic changes to “normal” have piled on top of the typical teenage angst. This can lead to a pressure cooker of stress and emotions. That’s why it is more important than ever before for young people to find ways to manage their stress and anxiety before it impacts their physical and emotional health.
Mindful Reflection for Teens
One powerful tool that can be done in just a few minutes each day is a tool known as reflection. By reflecting on important life topics by journaling, microblogging, conversations with friends, or even just thinking about it can improve their mood and lower the impact of all the stress in their life.
To help make this process easier for families we created our unique mindfulness cards that encourage tweens and teens. Each two-sided card offers a prompt for reflection and one for action. Teens will be asked to do something like describe one of their happiest moments and reflect on it. Once that is complete their action would be to write a list of 5 things that make them smile. Simple. Powerful. Effective.
By paring the two, it increased the positive impact on kids. Science has proven that just a few minutes of focus on self-care can make a significant difference in the way you feel. The best part is that parents can even join their teens and improve their mental well-being as well.
