The Xen Health team, together with founder and CEO, Sarah Davidson, was excited to participate in the International Symposium on Cognitive Research and Disabilities as an exhibitor during the February 13 and 14 symposium in Jacksonville, Florida.
This two-day event held by IBCCES hosted a wide variety of international experts and provided Continuing Education credits for educators and healthcare professionals. This innovative symposium offered two days of TED-style talks focusing on best practices and the latest research on cognitive disabilities. It provided tangible ways for professionals to help their students and patients better manage and understand their disabilities.
Xen Health in the Exhibit Hall
We had the opportunity to showcase and demonstrate the new personal biofeedback system (Resility by Xen Health) that provides a way to manage stress and anxiety without side-effects of medication. The small wireless sensors are a big advantage over bulky, expensive biofeedback equipment normally only found in a physician’s or therapist’s office.
There was a lot of excitement from doctors, healthcare professionals and educators alike when we demonstrated how such a small device can monitor muscle tension through the EMG Biofeedback sensor that pairs with an easy to use iOS app on iPhones and iPads.
EMG Biofeedback Device
While wearing the Bluetooth device, users could easily show the app responding to muscle tension in the user’s shoulders, forehead, and even on the jaw. Inexpensive disposable adhesive electrodes allow the device to be used on any major muscle. EMG biofeedback has been proven to help manage chronic pain, TMJ, migraine headaches and muscle tension that is commonly carried in the shoulders and neck.
Biofeedback Benefits, as seen by professionals
Multiple educators remarked that Resility’s biofeedback device would be a great help in the classroom. With this device, students could be taught how to recognize early signs of stress and anxiety and teach the body to relax and calm down.
Healthcare professionals saw this as an opportunity to send a device home with a patient to teach them relaxation techniques that can help manage anxiety. General Practitioners were especially excited because it means they could potentially help patients manage their stress without medication.
Physical therapists saw the power of being able to show patients how their muscles respond to exercises by tensing and relaxing.
Biofeedback and Beyond
One common question we received was about adding other types of sensors in the future. We are working with our team of professional experts and evaluating different sensors based on market demand.
How We can help populations and individuals
e believe this product can help improve outcomes for people with stress and stress related chronic conditions in a more cost-effective and convenient way. Employers can use this as a tool for their employee wellness programs.
